Wild, Wild West

The Wild, Wild West. Time to revisit our original plan for the trip from Florida to California.

When we built the original plan, we were going to be in Florida until February 5th. We are now going to be leaving Florida on February 1st. And that has some implications on the travel plan.

This is what it looks like right now:

I use the trip planner on the Good Sam Club website to plan our travels.

This is a major road trip.  2,850 miles. 52 driving hours not including fuel stops or rest breaks. Our site at Desert Shores in Indio, California is booked for February 16th and we will leave for Canada on April 16th.

That gives us 16 days to make the trip instead of the original plan of 12 days.

We had booked and paid for all of the sites along the way. The original trip looked like this:

February 5th: depart Everglades Isle Motorcoach Resort and spend one night at Florida Grande Motorcoach Resort in Webster, Florida. 260 miles. 4 hour drive.

February 6th: depart Florida Grande Motorcoach Resort and spend one night at Carrabelle Beach RV Resort in Carrabelle, Florida. 246 miles. 5 hour drive.

February 7th: depart Carrabelle Beach RV Resort and spend two nights at Heritage Motorcoach Resort and Marina in Orange Beach, Alabama. 254 miles. 5 hour drive.

February 9th: depart Heritage Motorcoach Resort and Marina and spend two nights at Rayford Crossing RV Resort in Spring, Texas. 550 miles. 9 hour drive.

February 11th: depart Rayford Crossing RV Resort and spend one night at Alsatian RV Resort and Golf Club in Castroville, Texas. 242 miles. 4 hour drive.

February 12th: depart Alsatian RV Resort and Golf Club and spend one night at Maverick Ranch RV Park in Lajitas, Texas. 406 miles. 8 hour drive.

February 13th: depart Maverick Ranch RV park and spend one night at Hacienda RV Resort in Las Cruces, New Mexico. 348 miles. 7 hour drive.

February 14th: depart Hacienda RV Resort and spend two nights at the Motorcoach Resort in Chandler, Arizona. 370 miles. 7 hour drive.

February 16th: arrive Desert Shores Motorcoach Resort, Indio, California. 265 miles. 5 hour drive.

We have to revisit the plan and either spend a few extra days in Florida and leave the rest of the plan as is or attempt to reschedule most of the trip. Lorraine and I will be reviewing our options today. We leave Florida in less than four weeks.

Have you stayed at the Chandler AZ Motorcoach Resort? Looks nice from I-10 BUT it’s awfully close to the busiest and loudest freeway in the Valley. Recommend you bring your ear plugs and try to get a site that’s as far away from the freeway as possible. Realize it’s short notice, but I checked a couple of our local favs (White Tanks & Estrella Maricopa County Parks) and as expected, they’re full. Since it’s only a couple nites, you might consider a couple of the casinos. Gila River Lone Butte Casino (close to the MR) has a few level/quiet dedicated RV/Truck parking spaces on the east side of their lot. There’s a couple nice restaurants there as well as the bigger Gila River Wild Horse Casino, which is across I-10 from the MR. WH Casino RV parking exists but isn’t that great. Desert Diamond Casino on the west side treats RV’ers well & is convenient to I-10. All are dry parking and you should call ahead to verify status, but the price is right. I’d consider both to be safe and preferable for a night or two compared to a loud MR. Although we like casino parking when available due to the built in entertainent and upscale restaurant options. Contact me by email if you’d like more details.

      Hello Van,

No, we have not stayed at Chandler and it was definitely not our first pick. We could see from Google maps and from the Motorcoach Resort website that the location was not ideal. We tried to get into Eagle View on our way across to California when we did these bookings back in August of 2018 but they were booked solid. We’ll check out your recommendations. Thank you for helping me out!!
