Time To Go
When police blockades start going up in Canada, that is when you know it is time to go.
Checkpoints have sprung up at every major entry point into Nova Scotia, as provincial staff stop and question anyone entering the province as part of the effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Highways, airports and ferry terminals are being monitored, with staff telling travellers to self-isolate for 14 days, no matter where they’re coming from. Those who fail to obey the isolation order could be fined $1,000 per day.
We leave Florida tomorrow. It will be a big drive for me as I intend to cross the Canadian border on Thursday.
I have no idea where we will be once we enter Canada. We are working on that today. And I am not at all happy to leave this paradise setting in Florida.
Our reward when we return to Canada will be isolation from our family and friends for two weeks.
The Canadian government has published a list of what we can do when we are self-isolated:
While keeping a physical distance of 2 metres from others, you can:
- greet with a wave instead of a handshake, a kiss or a hug
- use food delivery services or online shopping
- ask family, a neighbor or friend to help with essential errands
- exercise at home
- go outside for some fresh air, a run, a bike ride, or to walk the dog
- host online dinners and games with family and friends
- use technology, such as video calls, to keep in touch with family and friends
- work from home
- get creative by drawing chalk art or running back yard obstacle courses and games
The list of what we cannot do is a bit longer.
I wish you luck in your drive north! If you find yourself in Petoskey, MI, let us know! We manage the Hearthside Grove Association. If you need a place to rest, email me.
Good luck! Sorry your winter in Florida was cut short!
Thanks Emily.
We love Hearthside Grove and Petoskey. One of our very favourite spots. Many thanks for your kind offer! We will touch base via email if we need a spot to rest.
Richard
Safe travels Richard!
Stay safe and healthy! Good luck on the drive home. There are a number of places that are still staying open for truckers. I’m sure they could also accommodate you since it would be difficult to use a drive-through in the RV.
